Development Boards
Teensy Microcontrollers
Teensy is a range of small but powerful programmable boards. There are a number of shields available for these microcontrollers, including the OctoWS2811 Adaptor which facilitates the control of thousands of LEDs and the Prop Shields which are aimed at building small hand held props. There are also audio shields which combined with the browser based audio design tool, provide a quick approach to low latency real-time audio processing.
Oh......, and they are small
-
teensy Controllers
The Teensy is a complete USB-based microcontroller development system, in a very small footprint, capable of implementing many types of projects. Programming can be carried out using the Arduino IDE.
-
Teensy Forum
The first place to go to solve Teensy related problems. There is an active development community around this problem and a FAQ section.
-
teensy Audio Design Tool
A GUI design tool for programming with the Teensy Audio Library. This gives a graphical approach to audio on the Teensy platform. It generates the Arduino code which you then export to the Arduino IDE.

Bela Lecture Course
This course is a deep dive into how Bela processes data, and how to implement real-time audio and interaction. If you want to learn or improve your skills with C++ and audio programming, this is a great way to start!
-
Bela Knowledge Base
Bela's own knowledge base. This is the obvious place to start if you are starting out, or have encountered a problem.

Soul on Bela Tutorial
If you want to use Soul on Bela, here is a clearly written tutorial by Daniel StrĂ¼big. Note that the address 192.168.7.2 to 192.168.6.2 on some versions of the Bela system. Thanks Daniel

Bela Blog
Full of a great deal of detail on an extensive range of projects that have been carried out using the Bela Cape at their core. Well worth a visit for inspiration, even if you are not using Bela.
Arduino
Arduino is a developer community, a programming language, an Integrated Development Environment and a series of programmable micro-controllers.
Arguably the easiest platform to through which one can learn about programmable microcontrollers.
-
Arduino IDE
The IDE is being constantly updated. Make sure that the hardware you are using is supported by the version you are about to install. It is technically possible to use an Arduino without using the IDE, but it is far more involved, and in the vast majority of cases, unnecessary.
-
Arduino Web Editor
You can code on-line - without having to download the IDE. Some boards, such as the Teensy boards, are not supported.
-
Arduino Website
Everything you need to know about Arduino including the above links, forums, tutorials and getting started instructions.
ESP Boards
ESP32 is a low cost, low power Arduino based microcontrollers eqipped with WIFI and Bluetooth. It is the successor to the ESP2866, which does not have the Bluetooth capability and is somewhat less powerful.
Boards sporting these chips come in many shapes and sizes, check our small components page for an idea of what we might have in stock.

Installing the ESP32 Board in Arduino IDE - Mac and Linux
This will show you how to install the ESP32 and ESP 8266 boards to your Arduino IDE. The instructions are almost identical to those for Windows, but just in case, make sure you follow the correct link.

ESP32 OLED
Some of our TTGO ESP32 boards have OLED displays attached to them. Here is a link to a tutorial to help you get started using the display. THERE IS NO NEED TO INSTALL OR USE PlatformIO. You can install the OLED library mentioned in the tutorial from the Arduino IDE Library Manager
